How can you create a free standing outdoor lighting range that combines attractive asethestics with durability and functionality to address the vagaries of the UK weather? A sytlish focal point that may be left outside all year round, but also looks good enough to move into your garden room or hallway for the winter?
We have spent the last 12 months exploring a wide range of novel materials, production methods and designs in order to bring something fresh and exciting to the market. Working with our specialist suppliers, we have finally identified a formulation of jesmonite that allows us to create bold and contemporary sculptural floor lamps with characteristics similar to stone, but considerably lighter and impact resistant.
Based on the original Jesmonite compound - a water based acrylic-modified gypsum composite - this formulation is a highly versatile material that lends itself to a wide range of colours and finishes, and is amenable to a variety of additives and inclusions.
Each Jalu lamp is hand cast to order, producing inherently beautiful and tactile lamps and providing the opportunity to create bespoke pieces that are unique.
Our first two collections of lighting demonstrate the flexibility of design that can be achieved with this new approach, with more concepts in the pipeline. We are also planning to work directly with clients to create bespoke products for specific interior or exterior design schemes.
